Mary Marshall is a lawyer with many years of experience in health law and privacy law.  She has a Master of Laws from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Toronto and is a member in good standing with the Law Societies of Alberta and Upper Canada.  Her career is extensive, having worked on a number of significant projects and committees as an advisor, legal consultant and leader in preparing policy papers and advice on privacy legislation, amendments to the Health Information Act, the Mental Health Act and other health related legislation.

 

She has also been an active member of numerous boards and committees including Accreditation Canada; National Advisory Committee for the University of Alberta Information Access and Protection of Privacy Program; and the Complaint Review Committees and Hearing Tribunals under the Health Professions Act.

 

In addition to receiving a number of awards for her services, including a Certificate of Recognition, Legal Aid Alberta, for meritorious service in the provision of quality legal services to Albertans, Ms. Marshall has also written on many topics relating to the health system and mental health in Canada.  These have included “Privacy, Confidentiality and the Regulation of Health Information” in Canadian Health Law Practice Manual (Toronto: Lexis Nexis, 2011), that she co-authored and “Everything you ever wanted to know about amendments to the Mental Health Act in Alberta,” Health Law Review, University of Alberta, to name a couple.
